Geocache Description:

A very long time ago, when Clacton-on-Sea looked very much different than it does today, many strange things happened. These have become folklore in the many drinking dens that can be found locally, and have been passed down the generations from father to grandfather and so on.

In about the year 1908, on a sunny spring day a mermaid was spotted on the rocks that you see in front of you, combing her hair. Some daft local folk attempted conversation with the mermaid, but although she could speak most European languages fluently, she cound not understand a word of English. Seeing an opportunity to cash in, a local fisherman, who had connections with a traveling circus, tried to capture the mermaid with his nets. Unfortunatley the fisherman was in such a rush he ensnared his foot within the net, fell in the water and drowned. The mermaid, with whatever magical powers that she must have possessed breathed life back into the fisherman, who upon opening his eyes fell in love with the beautiful mermaid and asked her to marry him.

There must have been a misunderstanding, the mermaid, who it must be remembered did not speak English, took offence and swam away and was never seen again.

The heartbroken fisherman was so enraptured by the attractive mermaid that he could not carry on without her and he threw himself off the rocks and into the sea and drowned again.

At the given co-ordinates you should find a number for the Fish Tail Groyne, (They all have thier own number) on a rectangular metal plaque screwed to the promenade, close to the edge, very near to where this bizarre story took place, showing two letters, which are FT and two numbers, say A & B

The cache can be found a short walk away at N 51 48.(A-A)(B-B)(A+A+B)  E001 11.(A+B)(A+A)(A+B+B)

As this is a letterbox cache there is a stamp inside it. This is not a swap and must remain in place. There is room for small TB's, but please, not heavy ones. You will understand why when you find the cache.
