Hubert H. Humphrey Jr. was the 38th Vice President of the United States, the only person from Minnesota to serve in that role. He also represented Minnesota in the United States Senate from 1949 to 1964, before he was LBJ's running mate, and again from 1971 to 1978 after he lost the Presidential election in 1968 to Richard Nixon. As a Senator, he was the lead author of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
