I never would have known this little cemetery was here if not for a geocache that used to be here years ago. I've decided to revive this cache location as I hope others will enjoy finding this bit of almost lost history.
The Pioneer Bowlus Cemetery was established in 1874 on property that was located on a stagecoach route that ran from Walla Walla to the North Fork of the Walla Walla River. The surrounding farm was homesteaded by Lewis Bowlus around 1873. Sadly, there are many graves of children here. In 1878 a diptheria epidemic came through this area; accounting for many of these graves.
When I first visited this site the cemetery was obviously abandoned and overgrown. Since then it looks like a lot of work has been done to clean up the area. There is a small entry way you can drive in and park. Please respect the cemetery and the surrounding areas (posted - no trespassing).
This cache shouldn't be a difficult one. Please make sure to re-hide/camo container so it's well hidden & hopefully can avoid being muggled.
