The Outdoor Campus West opened in 2011 and was funded by hunting and fishing license fees. South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks put away funds for three years in order to build this facility.
Free educational classes for youth, adults and families are offered throughout the year. Please see their website for seasonal classes..
Indoors there are 4 different habitats of western South Dakota on display and a freshwater aquarium (4600 gallons). Outdoors you’ll find a 1.5 mile nature trail with lots of room to explore. The outdoor trail is open dawn to dusk everyday.
If you look away from GZ you’ll see the front fishing pond. You can view water fowl (ducks and gees), turtles and fish. In the summer it is stocked by SD GF&P from the Cleghorn Springs Fish Hatchery for fishing classes. Please register for one of the classes to fish here.
Look for canoeing and kayaking activists on this pond too.
