Interested in geocaching but unsure of just where to start? Been caching before but just want a refresher or some additional tips?
Stop by the Geocaching booth at Naturefest on May 21st, to learn about this (free!), fun, family-friendly activity, have any questions answered (well, as long as they pertain to geocaching), and find a couple of sample caches. We can even help you set up your account and log your first finds.
Geocaching (JEE-oh-cash-ing), is an outdoor activity that combines hiking with a tech-aided treasure hunt. Instead of a parchment map where X marks the spot, you use an app on a smartphone (or a GPS), and your powers of observation. Instead of hunting for a buried chest, you're looking for a cache hidden in an eco-friendly site above ground. Geocaching is a great way for individuals, families, or groups to exercise both mind and body.
During our informal sessions we will cover the following:
• A brief history of geocaching
• Explanation of cache types and useful terms
• Geocaching apps vs. GPS
• Navigating the Geocaching.com site
• Setting up your geocaching account and logging your caches
• A hands-on demonstration of finding a newly created geocache.
• Answer any of your questions
