On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina strengthened into a Category 5 hurricane and made landfall for the second time over southeast Louisiana and Mississippi. The days following were indescribable to say the very least. Families were devastated and homes were lost leaving the brave survivors to pick up the pieces and move on as best as they could. Refugees from Louisiana and Mississippi were welcomed by the people of the Natural State. The Cedar Glade Baptist Encampment was a safe haven for families escaping the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Almost 17 years later in April 2022 some of these families are still trying to put their lives back together.
