The Shitanoya Ruins are the remains of a circular settlement site dating from the Middle Jomon Period (approximately 5,000 to 4,000 years ago) that spanned Higashifushimi 2-chome, 3-chome, and 6-chome in Nishi-Tokyo City.
The site is one of the largest ruins of that period in the southern Kanto region.
Part of the site was designated as a National Historic Site in March 2015.
Excavations have revealed that the settlement consists of a plaza surrounded by a group of dugouts (holes thought to be graves) and a row of buildings thought to be houses and warehouses.
This structure is called a "ring village," and is typical of settlements in the middle Jomon period.
In addition, there are multiple ring settlements across the valley, a feature known as "twin-ring settlements.
The settlement is very long, with a duration of 1,000 years, which is estimated from the settlement form and excavated pottery.
It is believed to have been a base settlement in the Shakujii River basin.
Part of the site where the ruins were located has been developed as the Shitanoya Ruins Park (6-4 Higashifushimi, Nishitokyo City).
The ruins are protected underground in this park.

下野谷遺跡（したのやいせき）は、西東京市東伏見二丁目、三丁目、六丁目にわたる縄文時代中期（今から約5千年前から4千年前）の環状集落の遺跡です。
南関東におけるその当時の遺跡として有数の規模です。
平成27年3月に一部が国史跡に指定されました。
発掘調査によって 集落には、土坑（お墓と考えられる穴）群のある広場を囲むように、住居や倉庫と考えられる建物が並ぶ形で構成されています。
この構造は「環状集落」といい、縄文時代中期の典型的な集落の構造です。
さらに環状集落が谷を挟んで複数存在しており、「双環状集落」と呼ばれる特徴があります。
集落の形態や、出土した土器から推定される集落の継続期間が1000年間と非常に長いことから。
石神井川流域の拠点となる集落だったと考えられています。
遺跡のあった場所の一部は下野谷遺跡公園（西東京市東伏見六丁目4番）として整備されています。
この公園の地下には遺跡が保護されています。
