Geocache Description:

This is my “Postcards of Simpler Times” Series, my way of making the past become visual to all of us. You will not be given coordinates to anything but the nearest post office and have to determine where ground zero is from the old postcard below and the objects you must find in the present setting. The subject, present or not, must be located within a 2 mile radius of the posted coordinates.

Gateway to the Cache
To solve this puzzle cache you must determine the letter substitutions for in the following coordinates.

N 44 AB.CDE, W 63 FG.HJK

The postcard above is circa 1940 of a place related to this cacher's daily grind. Start by finding where the photographer was standing when the photograph was taken. Be careful of traffic when standing at ground zero, you may get run over if you stand there too long.
From this spot, there is a three-storey brick building behind you. This building was built in XXJX according to the blue plaque on left side of the front door. It might be best not to dawdle here between September and June during the hours of 8:00 AM through 4:00 PM.
Looking back towards the subject of the photograph, the gates pictured were the entry to a mansion built in XXXG.
North from here is a green space with several stone columns on one corner. On one of the columns, you will find that another mansion, built in XCXX, occupied this space after it was moved from downtown Halifax.
On another column nearby you will learn of another building that occupied this space and was a home for new mothers and infants from XXXX-XXHX.
West along the street is a path running south between two parking lots that continues between two building towards a field. Between the building to the west and the field is a tree with a stone and plaque in memory of a former prominent employee who was born in XXXD. Also in this space you will find a plaque marking the spot of the mansion belonging to the gates in the photograph.
West and then south along the path is a larger concrete path area beside the long side of the field. Around the field are E flood light posts.
South of where you are standing, there is a building taller than most in the area with a telescope on its roof. There are K letters in the first word of its name.
West between two building, is a set of stairs rising to the southwest. The building-at-the-top-of-the-stairs’ civic address number is XXA.
North is a grey stone building. A plaque near the main door commemorates a school that used to operate in this space but was closed in XXXF.
West is a column commemoration a significant anniversary of my employer. On the north face of the column is a plaque describing the original site of my employer and a prominent founding member. The founder became Vicar Apostolic in XXXB.
From here you should be able to find ground zero easily. I hope you enjoy this cache and look for others in the series.
