Geocache Description:

About the fish: One species of fish that can be found at Garrett Lake is the redear sunfish (Lepomis microlophus). Its main sources of food are aquatic snails, midge larvae, amphipods, and mayfly, damselfly, and dragonfly nymphs. They are commonly found in farm ponds, lakes, and reservoirs and prefer warm, clear, non-flowing waters that have vegetation, stumps, logs, and other types of cover. They are common throughout the state with the exception of the higher elevation mountains in the eastern part of the state. In Tennessee, their average length is 8 inches and range from 4-12 inches. The state record is 3 pounds, 6 ounces. –Information gathered from the TWRA Angler’s Guide to Tennessee Fish

About the cache: The cache is a lock-and-lock container that can be found at Garrett Lake. After parking in the lot at the end of Salmon Road, walk towards the pavilion and you will see a trail that follows (initially) the shoreline. Follow this trail until you are within around 100 feet of the cache (about a .3-.4 mile hike each way). It is a nice trail but after a rain it can be muddy so plan accordingly. Bug spray may be a good idea. Reception here can be spotty. If you use a phone for caching, you should download the cache offline to make sure you can access it. There are currently 3 other caches that can be found on this side of the lake. Three additional caches can be found on the other side of the lake by parking at the lot at the end of Eagle Hill Road.

About the lake: Garrett Lake is a 183-acre lake found in Weakley County, Tennessee. It is managed by TWRA. It is approximately 7 miles east of Dresden off State Highway 54. The lake has 2 parking lots, a picnic area and pavilion, a boat launching ramp, and a fishing pier. The lake is open to fishing 7 days a week. It is open 24 hours a day. Garrett Lake requires a fishing license but does not require a separate lake permit.
