Geocache Description:

Congrats to guardrail10 on finding his 10,000th cache!

Here are just a few stories from friends who have cached with him over the years, if you have a story to share, please add it to the log

I got Dick into this hobby. We worked together at Hennepin Tech teaching Machine trades. There was once a geocache in Elm Creek Park called Poor Yorick. As I held up the skull I said alas poor Yorick I Knew him well. Of course a lady was walking by at the same time. That woman was freaked out big time. She turned and got out of there fast. We both laughed our heads off. Dick and I have geocached a lot together. Usually after school and before my night job. Now he has turned into a first to find crazy man 🤣🤣. That is what made me create the hide called Hound Dog. 🤣🤣 Poke, Poke 🤣🤣. Have fun!

I don't recall my first meetup with Dick, but we've run into each other at caches and always chat at event gatherings. Back in 2010 we got together for an extended weekend of caching and camping near Pine River and the Paul Bunyan trail. There were at least 6 in our group biking. Dick, Steve and I camped at a state forest campground. Not certain if Dick got Lyme Disease that weekend or had symptoms from a previous bite, but after day 1 he was feeling the weakness and other symptoms of the disease. So he rested at the tent the remainder of the weekend. However, at the end of the day, we got together for some easy access caches. All in all he and we all had a great time together. We usually talk about that weekend, so I know it is equally as fond for him as well. Dick is a great guy and is always very helpful. I enjoy his company and I wish him a big congratulations on his milestone and many more to come!

I met Guardrail10 at a few events and asked about his caching name. Not sure what his answer was, but got the idea a lot of his hides were on guardrails. Hmm. Then, a few weeks back now, I saw his name on a bunch of the new MN geoart caches by Minnstars. We must have been adding numbers to our totals because I had also just passed the 10K mark. Congratulations on the finds. Teetertr. Tom

For years I heard about guardrail10 and read his logs. That's why I knew that I wanted to be a geocacher like him. The log I remember was about a cache east of his house in Fridley. He mentioned getting close to the cache, but now there was cold swampy water between him and the cache. Most people would wait until the winter, but his log said he decided to just Go For It! He charged into the water like a man on fire! He ended up soaked with wet swampy water, but he got the cache. I seem to remember that when he got home that his wife looked at him and his wet clothes and just shook her head. It's amazing what we geocachers will do to reach a cache. Now THAT's my kind of geocacher. Congratulations Dick on your 10,000 finds! You Da Man!

I recall my first encounter with guardrail10 (Dick) on 04/22/21 at (GC99FAF). It was a CITO day (GC97HNZ). The geocaches and trash were a plenty. I was making my way back around the park with friends when we ran into him. After a short conversation, he and I discovered we had a l)tott in common. Since then, every time I see him I have to harass him about making this super secret attachment for our totts. Happy Caching and many more my friend. Oh, and thanks for the smiles! ;)

What can I say about guardrail10? The fact that when I met him in person for the first time he mentioned he wasn't much of a FTF hound. Um, I question if he actually understands the meaning of that term. As one who goes for a FTF or two in his time, I have been thwarted by guardrail10 and his space/time vehicle he uses to get to caches before everyone else even has the chance to read their email! It's a good thing that he's a super-nice guy! Congrats on 10,000! I'll leave the FTF honors on this one to the man himself!

I believe the first time we ran info Dick was at an early morning attempt at a FTF. My two sons and I pulled up to the park and saw Dick there with a long pole. We figured it was already found, and we planned on just saying "hi" and maybe borrowing his pole (we lacked that particular TOTT at that point!)  Turns out the pole was not needed, and we were able to make the FTF together. We shared some geocaching stories as we walked to another hide.  Since that time we have run into Dick at many FTF attempts, and it seems each time we do, he is either carrying, or talking about, a new pole that he has. One better for biking, one better for pulling down on, etc., etc.  Dick made us realize we had a lot to learn about the various TOTTs for higher caches!  We've greatly enjoyed our encounters with Dick, as he is a genuinely friendly and helpful cacher. Congrats on 10K, and hope to see you around a few more FTFs!

Holy Strollers

We met guardrail10 a long time ago, long enough ago that we don’t remember when or how, presumably at a cache or an event. We have had the pleasure of running into him many times since then and always delightful conversations have ensued, exchanging caching and life stories. Although he works as a machinist instructor he manages to find the time to race off for an FTF and it doesn’t seem to matter too much where it might be! He lives on one end of town, we another, and we still run into each other. Once the paperwork is done, he always makes time for more chatting which we enjoy immensely.

We have shared many caches and FTF’s, sometimes just us and sometimes with others, and it’s always a pleasant experience. Dick always seems to love chatting as much as we do! We have also met his delightful wife at some of the events where we laughed and shared even more about our life stories. Very delightful couple and very glad we have gotten to know them! Looking forward to many more shared experiences with guardrail10!

While I have never geocached with Guardrail10, I meet him at a Geocache event. Mine!
It was at the first Bloomington Blue Switch Day in 2021. As both a first time event host and a farily new Geocacher, I was kinda nervous. Guardrail10 was early and immediately asked if he could do anything to help, even before introduced himself! I put him to work right away and he kept coming back asking what else he could do.

This year, at the 2022 event, he was right there offering assistance again! Nice Guy! He is always kind, funny and generous—when I need Geocache help, which is a lot. Guardrail10 has very ingenious and clever caches. I have seen only a few but they were works of art and very well done

Guardrail10, Dick embodies the true spirit of Geocaching. Congrats

I have met guardrail10 at the BlueSwitch event this year. Dick is often in my thoughts. Often it has to do with a new cache being posted, on my days off. I mentally map where it is, where I think guardrail10 lives, and how long it will take to get there. Do I really want to get my hopes up only to see his ftf being posted, while I am still miles away? I shake my head and think, doesn’t this guy ever sleep in? Or should I just stay put and hope something posts while he is already busy? Inertia, by me, shows why guardrail10, will be my hero.

Congratulations to a man who plays the game the way he sees fit. And more thanks for what he has given back. Turns out not all his hides are in guard rails, right?
