Ruby saw his dreams of fame and fortune dashed when Blue Sky Studio cast a blue parrot to play the role of Blue in the film Rio. He was so upset he started flying North and didn’t stop until he reached Schodack Island State Park. It was here that Ruby realized that he could win fame as the only red parrot in the park.
The cache is hidden near Nine-Mile Tree, a giant elm that once served as a natural lighthouse to guide river traffic on the approaches to Albany. Stay clear of thick, hairy poison ivy vines often found climbing up the large trees in the park.
Note: The closest official parking is at the Park Office half a mile South of the cache. However, there is room to pull off safely on either side of the road near the cache which is allowed for a brief stop.
