Geocache Description:

This series of geocaches follows the journey of an Atlantic Salmon through all its different life stages from an egg to an adult so will make the most sense if you do them in order. In each cache you will find a model of the salmon at that stage. Please leave them in the cache for the next people to enjoy.

The trail celebrates the return of Atlantic salmon to the River Aire after a gap of nearly 150 years. This is cache three of six.

Once the fish has used up the whole yolk sac it becomes known as a fry. They can now feed on microscopic life that lives in the water. At this point in their life they will grow 5-8cm.

Our salmon now becomes known as a parr. They have vertical stripes and spots known as parr marks. This helps them hide from predators. They will feed on small aquatic insects for the next 1-4 years.
