NFC stands for Near Field Communication. NFC is a feature that is becoming quite common on smart phones . It allows an unpowered geotag to communicate with your smart phone. The NFC protocol is quite similar to RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) but with a much shorter range. The range is about 4 cm so your phone will need to be close to the geotag.
