Geocache Description:

This cache memorializes Tobin -- father, son, brother, and geospouse. Tobin was an enthusiast of books, juggling, "schlock cinema", board games, and fantasy wargaming. He was not the greatest person on a soccer or baseball team (most of the time he missed the ball or the kick, but he tried). He was in Cub Scouts and orienteering, but by preteen years he moved into gaming and miniatures.

A summer job in high school seemed to pique his interest in computers. From then on it was gaming and computers (the complete nerd). He had two computer teachers that kept him out of trouble, and a physics teacher who allowed Tobin and the gaming crew to hide in his classroom during auditorium sessions. He also played a senior prank with friends (took all of the bells down so that class bells would not ring for the next class). He started college in Rolla, Missouri in aeronautical engineering, but changed to University of Missouri St Louis in computers. He worked in the computer lab during school and decided that computers were the thing he wanted to do.

Tobin visited Vancouver, BC in February 1994. The St. Louis, Missouri native would, as we walked along W.  Broadway, stop and sigh deeply upon viewing False Creek. He used 2/3 of a film roll when I took him to Ambleside Beach in West Vancouver. The Pacific Northwest beckoned the young man to go west, and he did.

Employed by Boeing for many years, he moved from Seattle, Washington, US to southwestern British Columbia with his wife and son in September 2019. An erstwhile geospouse, Tobin brought his Swiss Army Knife when a writing stick or a TOTT was needed, and often spotted a cache before the registered geocacher did. He enjoyed geocaching for the excursions to hidden pathways, parks, beaches, and points of interest, for the exercise, the Geocaching International Film Festivals, opportunity to drink beer or coffee with Lackeys and fellow geocachers, and contributing his niche trivia knowledge to some themed Unknown caches.

Tobin accompanied me to several event caches close to Geocaching HQ, meeting several Lackeys, and attended two event caches in BC's Lower Mainland before metastatic pancreatic cancer put an end to the fun. Tobin passed away at the age of 52 October 9, 2020 and is dearly missed.
