Standing at GZ, look to the South and you will see an empty lot. Believe it or not this was my Grandma Virgie's little farm during the 1960s. She had a very big garden (tomatoes, strawberries, and blackberry bushes). She also had a cow! This is where I learned that milk doesn't come from a carton at the store. I could not believe my eyes when I watched the cow being milked... then, she expected us to drink that stuff! It's also where I learned how to skim off the cream and churn it into butter. AMAZING! So much that a city girl does not know.
When I-435 was being constructed, she was bought out and required to move. The first price they offered her made her mad and she contested. At the appeal they gave her less! She was a woman of STRENGTH and INTEGRITY.
