Geocache Description:

"The Art of Welding" class took place during January as part of Spirit Lake High School's J-term. J-term was a 2-4 week program where students could immerse themselves in something they enjoyed doing or that interested them. In 2017, this particular "The Art of Welding" class welded this incredible statue that is at the junction of highways 9 and 71. While making your way into town, you are sure to greet it.

Upon reaching the sculpture to find this geocache, be sure to take in all the intricate details that can easily go unnoticed from far away. Within the sails, you can see many different figures that are all significant to the Iowa Great Lakes area. The different figures each have a particular grinding pattern, giving the sculpture a lot of variety and movement. Somewhere on the sails, the students who helped make this sculpture become a reality have their own metal nameplate bearing their last name and the year they graduated.

A lot of work went into creating this piece, and I hope you can appreciate it as much as I do. Parking is available nearby. There are benches around where you can sit and take in the view. The geocache is not on the sculpture itself. You are looking for a small magnetic micro. Beware of muggles. Happy hunting!
