Welcome to this beautiful beach in Tunisia & to the

historical old town Hammamet Medina !

We spent a great vacation in this beautiful country and also in this city.

We were thrilled, among many other great things, the old city, the archeology and the beach.

This has brought me to the idea here an EC to this topic.

So I hope to be able to offer here an instructive EC that makes you fun.

Here now some general information about this part of the coast.

Hammamet is located at the southeastern end of the Cap Bon peninsula, which in turn is located in the north of Tunisia. The city has about 100,000 inhabitants and enjoys great popularity among visitors from all over the world. This is mainly due to the kilometers of sandy beaches, which is why the region around Hammamet is the most visited in the whole country. Nevertheless, the city has retained its original charm and enchants travelers with oriental flair. Especially the historic old town, also called Medina, represents the cultural center of Hammamet and is completely walled. There is no shortage of sights, but the city also has a lot to offer outside the medina.

Here now some general information about this area.

You are here on a beautiful public sandy beach with nice small colerful boats.

Here you can stay and relax well, there is also a lot of gastronomy nearby.

Now Information about the sand, beach & its forms.

Everyone knows those wave-like patterns you see on the beach at low tide.

There is a scientific term for this: ripple marks.

These patterns also occur in deserts.

Even in snowdrifts, such wave-like patterns sometimes form as well.

Ripple marks are formed in a similar way as dunes.

The prerequisite is a surface with sand. The wind sweeps over this surface.

It picks up individual grains of sand, transports them further or nudges them.

Among the grains of sand there are lighter and heavier ones, and thus faster and slower ones.

They hinder each other a bit.

The slower grains of sand get in the way of the faster ones and slow them down.

In this way, the first small clusters are formed, i.e. accumulations of sand on the ground.

Where a small elevation has formed, this obstructs further grains of sand that are blown on.

These remain on the elevation and the elevation becomes even larger.

So this process is self-reinforcing.

More and more sand collides with the elevation and remains there until a proper dune grows.

The same principle is used to create the small ripple marks that you see on the beach at low tide.

Difference, with the dunes it is wind, with the ripple marks on the beach it is the water.

A second difference is, where the wind always blows more or less in the same direction,

the elevations are asymmetrical.

On the windward side, the dune rises slowly; on the leeward side, it drops off relatively steeply.

In contrast, most ripple marks on the ocean are symmetrical because the water flows in both

directions. First toward the beach, then back again. This balances each other out.

But now to the sand, and his forms.

YOUR TASK FOR THE CACHE:

1.) What is the name of the wave patterns on the water's edge ?

2) a.) Are these forms symmetrical or asymmetrical ?

    b.) Explain to me in your own words why it is so.

3.) Let dry sand trickle through your hands, then pat hands. What feeling remains on the skin?

A) The feeling as if the hands were roughened by sandpaper.

B) The feeling of powdered sugar between the fingers.

C) The feeling of moisture, although the hands were dry before.

Describe in your own words why it is like that.

4.) Create a log photo for the log with you in front of the 3 mermaids statue!

     And, if you want Optionally also a heart in the sand incl. the date.

Willkommen am Strand in Tunesien & an der

historischen Altstadt Hammamet Medina !

Wir verbrachten einen schönen Urlaub in diesem schönen Land und auch in dieser Stadt.

Uns begeisterte, neben vielen tollen Dingen, die alte Stadt, die Archäologie & der Strand.

Das hat mich zu der Idee gebracht hier einen EC zu diesem Thema auszulegen.

So hoffe ich hier einen lehrreichen EC anzubieten zu können der Euch Spaß macht.

Hier nun einige allgemeine Informationen zu diesem Küstenbereich im Mittelmeer

Hammamet liegt am südöstlichen Ende der Halbinsel Cap Bon, welche wiederum im Landesnorden Tunesiens befindlich ist. Die Stadt zählt rund 100.000 Einwohner und erfreut sich großer Beliebtheit unter Besuchern aus aller Welt. Das hat sie vor allem den kilometerlangen Sandstränden zu verdanken, weshalb die Region rund um Hammamet die meistbesuchte des ganzen Landes ist. Trotzdem hat sich die Stadt ihren ursprünglichen Charme bewahrt und verzaubert Reisende durch orientalischen Flair. Vor allem die historische Altstadt, auch Medina genannt, stellt das kulturelle Zentrum von Hammamet dar und ist vollständig ummauert. An Sehenswürdigkeiten mangelt es dort jedenfalls nicht, aber auch abseits der Medina hat die Stadt allerhand zu bieten.

Ihr befindet Euch hier an einem schönen öffentlichen Sandstrand.

Malerisch mit den ganzen kleinen Booten.

Hier kann man sich gut aufhalten und entspannen.

Es befindet sich auch viel Gastronomie in der Nähe.

Hier Informationen zu dem Sand, Strand & seine Form

Diese wellenartigen Muster, die man bei Ebbe am Strand sieht, kennt jeder.

Dafür gibt es einen wissenschaftlichen Fachbegriff: Rippelmarken.

Diese Muster kommen auch in Wüsten vor.

Sogar in Schneeverwehungen bilden sich manchmal ebenfalls solche wellenförmige Muster aus.

Rippelmarken entstehen auf ähnliche Weise wie Dünen.

Voraussetzung ist eine Fläche mit Sand. Über diese Fläche streicht der Wind.

Er nimmt einzelne Sandkörner auf, transportiert sie weiter oder schubst sie an.

Unter den Sandkörnern gibt es leichtere und schwerere, damit auch schnellere und langsamere.

Die behindern sich gegenseitig ein bisschen.

Die langsamen Sandkörner stehen den schnelleren im Weg und bremsen sie aus.

Auf diese Weise entstehen erste kleine Cluster, also Anhäufungen von Sand am Boden.

Wo sich eine kleine Erhebung gebildet hat, behindert diese weitere Sandkörner, die angeweht

werden. Die bleiben an der Erhebung liegen und die Erhebung wird noch größer.

Dieser Prozess verstärkt sich also von selbst.

Immer mehr Sand prallt an die Erhebung, bleibt liegen bis eine ordentliche Düne heranwächst.

Nach dem gleichen Prinzip entstehen die kleinen Rippelmarken, die man bei Ebbe am Strand sieht.

Unterschied, bei den Dünen ist es Wind, bei den Rippelmarken am Strand ist es das Wasser.

Ein zweiter Unterschied ist, dort, wo der Wind immer mehr oder weniger in die gleiche Richtung weht,

sind die Erhebungen asymmetrisch.

Auf der Luv-Seite steigt die Düne langsam an, auf der Lee-Seite fällt sie relativ steil ab.

Die meisten Rippelmarken am Meer sind dagegen symmetrisch, weil das Wasser in beide Richtungen

strömt. Erst zum Strand hin, dann wieder zurück. Dadurch gleicht sich es aus.

Doch nun zum Sand und dem Muster!

EURE AUFGABE ZUM CACHE:

1.) Wie nennen sich die Wellenmuster an der Wasserkante ?

2.) a.) Sind diese Formen symmetrisch oder asymetrisch aufgebaut ?

     b.) Erkläre mir es mit Deinen eigenen Worten, warum es so ist.

3.) Lass trocken Sand durch die Hande rieseln, nun Hände abklopfen. Welches Hautgefühl bleibt ?

A) Das Gefühl als wären die Hande wie von Schleifpapier aufgeraut.

B) Das Gefühl von Puderzucker zwischen den Fingern

C) Das Gefühl von Feuchtigkeit obwohl die Hände vorher trocken waren.

Beschreibe in eigenen Worten warum dieses so ist.

4.) Erstelle für den Log ein Logfoto mit Dir vor der schönen Statue der 3 Meerjungfrauen.

    und wenn Du möchtest Optional auch ein Herz im Sand inkl. Datum.
