The first attempt at pressure cooking was in 1679 by the French physicist, Denis Papin. He invented the “Steam Digester” in an effort to reduce the time needed to cook foods. Papin’s invention used a large cast iron vessel with a tight-fitting lid that locked. Without valves as a means to release pressure, his invention became dangerous and often exploded.
In 1939 National Presto Company, which was founded in Eau Claire, WI, introduced a new home pressure cooker in a saucepan-style that featured a rotating cover with a simple gasket seal. The same design is still being used in modern day pressure cookers.
Cache is placed with the landowners' permission. Land is part the Wisconsin Forest Law Program and is "open" to the public. Open designation allows public access to the property only for hunting, fishing, sight-seeing and cross-country skiing without additional permission from the landowners. The landowners' grant additional premission to geocacher to search for caches.
A trail map of the property, with parking locations can be downloaded here: Link to trail map. Please, do not park on the gravel road.
