Cache is located in the Shaw Nature Reserve tall grass prairie. Depending on your starting point the hike will take you through woods and prairie over a well marked trail system. You must find the correct container to sign the log.

Shaw Nature Reserve is 2400 acres and home to tall grass prairies, forests, glades, woodlands, wetlands and a native plant garden. Along with environmental education, restoration and native plant horticulture there are also 14 miles of hiking trails.
The Nature Reserve is open from 8 AM to 8 PM during daylight savings time. It closes at 5PM otherwise.
All visitors are required to stop at the Visitor Center to register.e-tickets are available on line. Pets are not allowed. Missouri Botanical Garden members are free. Fees for non-Missouri Botanical Garden members are $5. Children under 12 are free. The Pinetum Loop Rd and the Trail House Loop road are open to cars daily, weather permitting. The prairie is an ecosystem dominated by grasses and wildflowers with few trees or shrubs. Prairie once covered the central 1/3 of North America from western Ohio to Texas to the Rockies. The eastern band of the prairie was the tallgrass or bluestem prairie. Prairie plants, with roots penetrating deep into the soil, are adapted to the midsummer droughts of this region. The Reserve's prairie plantings (on former farmland or pasture) represent this once-vast, nearly treeless ecosystem, of which less than 1% of the original remains intact.
