This area started as a joint district with Phillips County. In 1908 the people of Yuma County voted to form their own district. District 28 was formed. The school house was built of cement to discourage the continuous moving of the school as was happening in other districts. The district was rather large and the school was located at the extreme northern edge of the district. This didn’t sit well will the people in the southern part of the district. A second school was built called Prairie Valley. In 1932 District 117 was formed from the north part of the district, nicknamed the Cement District as the cement school house was located in this new division
