🌲*** Rouken Glen Park *** 🌲

Welcome to Rouken Glen Park, once the grounds of the home of the mill owner for the Calico Printing Works in Thornliebank. Voted Britain's Best Park in 2016, through the vote run by Fields in Trust. The park is where my kids and I had our first two "Did Not Find" logs on the first day we tried geocaching. These were Rouken Glen Walk - Welcome and Rouken Glen Walk - Walled Garden.

Thankfully these were followed by our first find, which was Rouken Glen Troll. During snacktime in the cafe at the duck pond, we decided that we would continue geocaching and so I paid for the Premium membership, allowing us to log that first find.

The park is home to a number of caches (Traditionals, Multis, Unknown/Mystery and Earthcaches). One of the Earthcaches, Rouken Glen Gorge - Earthcache covers the Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in the park. The park covers a number of areas, from grass lawns and a children's play area, a relatively flat events area, skate park, the duck pond, the gorge with the woodland walks and waterfalls, areas modified for historical industrial use and a rolling pasture area.

To find this geocache, you need to take a wee tour around some of the park. The geocache is at N55 47.abc W004 18.xyz

To find a, b, c, x, y and z then follow the steps below.

You are at an information board. Look at the map of the park. The number for 'a' is the number for the Sports Zone plus the number for the Events Area.

Now go to the next waypoint, which is at the Sports Zone. The number for 'b' is half of the number of table tennis tables.

On to the next waypoint, the Centenary Stone. The number for 'c' is the first number on the plaque plus the fifth number on the plaque.

Stop now and check that the sum of a + b + c = 11.

Now we go to one of the access points for the Glen Walks. Look at the information board, find the section that starts "The Glen Walks is a network...". The number for 'x' is the number of letters in the last word of the third line of that text. The word starts with A.

On we go to one of the old dams in the park. The last wee bit of the path is quite rough. The number for 'y' is the number of vertical bars between the metal posts PLUS the number you worked out for 'c'.

One last waypoint and then you can work out the coordinates. The bridge near the old pumphouse that is meant to look like a water mill. The number for 'z' is the number of diagonal timbers that are in line with the river flow, on ONE side of the bridge only. The timbers go from the top of the handrail to the level of the walkway.

Stop now and check that the sum of x + y + z = 23.

Put the values for a, b, c, x, y and z into the right places in the coordinates: N55 47.abc W004 18.xyz and you should now be able to find the geocache. Good luck!
