Velkommen til den Nordlige Polarkreds ved Søndre Strømfjord, nu kaldet Kangerlussuaq -"Den store Fjord", efter at Grønland fik selvstyre.
Under 2. Verdenskrig fik USA base her og byggede den største lufthavn i Grønland. De byggede mange huse til de omkring 1.400 personer, som boede her, og det er nogle af disse bygninger, som denne AL fører dig rundt til, for bygningerne har nu funktioner, som er samlende for samfundet her. I 1992 forlod US Air Force basen og overlod husene til selvstyret.
Du skal besøge Arktisk Kommando - Luftgruppe Vest, Kirken, Idrætscenter, Broen og Skolen.
Den store ting er at tage turen til Indlandsisen, og det kan bedst gøres med tur-guide.
Hvis du har mulighed for det, kan også anbefales at besøge udkigspukterne ved Tarcan med DMI stationen samt Black Ridge, samt Ferguson Lake, og der er fine cacher på vejen til disse steder, samt en spændende Earthcache at besøge på vejen.

Welcome to the Arctic Circle at Søndre Strømfjord, now called Kangerlussuaq - "The Great Fjord", after Greenland gained self-government.
During World War II, the United States was based here and built the largest airport in Greenland. They built many houses for the 1,400 people who lived here, and it is some of these buildings that this AL takes you around to, because the buildings now have functions that are unifying for the community here. In 1992, the US Air Force left the base and left the houses to the self-government.
At the AL You must visit the Arctic Command - Air Group West, the Church, the Sports Centre, the Bridge and the School. You can chose the order yourselves.
The great thing is to take the trip to the Inland Ice Sheet, and this is best done with a tour guide.
If you have the opportunity, it is also recommended to visit the lookouts at Tarcan with the DMI station as well as Black Ridge, and Ferguson Lake, and there are nice caches on the way to these places, as well as an exciting Earthcache to visit.
