Nigula raba asub Nigula looduskaitsealal, mis võeti kaitse alla juba 1957. aastal. Raba tekkis järve soostumisel, domineeriv on lageraba. Nigula soostikku ilmestavad soosaared ehk peaksid, mis on kunagiste järvede vahelise voorja künnise kõrgemad osad. Raba lääneservas asub reliktjärvena Nigula järv, selle veerest algav edasi-tagasi 6 km pikkune õpperada kulgeb mööda lageraba kuni kõige suurema rabasaareni – Salupeaksini. Seal kasvav salumets on jäänuk soojast ja niiskest kliimast 5-6 tuhat aastat tagasi. Rajale jäävad vaatetorn ja ka madal platvorm, kust on hea jälgida rabaelanike toimetamisi. Nigula swamp is located in the Nigula Nature Reserve, which was taken under protection as early as 1957. The bog arose from the swamping of the lake, the dominant being the lageraba. The Nigula marshland is characterised by swamp islands, or shoulders, which are the higher parts of the threshold of the voorja between the former lakes. On the western edge of the bog there is Lake Nigula as a relict lake, and the 6 km long study trail, which starts from its rolling edge, runs along the lageraba to the largest bog island – Salupeaks. The grove forest growing there is a relic of a warm and humid climate 5-6 thousand years ago. There is a gazebo on the track, as well as a low platform, from which it is good to observe the actions of the bog dwellers.
