It was the early 1900's. Cowboy wanted a few more cows to improve his herd, but he was short on cash. He decided to spend a few weeks working at the nearby Millwood sawmill to raise some money. One afternoon when Cowboy got off work he was thirsty for a couple of beers and some conversation. He headed to the Columbine Bar and soon had a cold beer in his hand and was talking to a local rancher he knew, Tim Gallaher. A few miners were at the other end of the bar and they were drinking straight whiskey and hooting back and forth spewing insults. A pretty barmaid was pouring drinks when one of the drunk miners walked up to her and started cursing and asking her for a dance. When she declined the miner grabbed the barmaid by the arm and started to pull her to the dance floor. She kept saying no, no, no but the miner did not want to take no for an answer. Cowboy spoke up and told the miner to back off and let her go. The miner did not take the comment lightly and started toward Cowboy saying he was going to teach Cowboy to mind his own business. Just then Tim stuck out his leg tripping the miner who went head over heels to the floor. The miner reached for his gun, but Cowboy was faster and had the barrel pointed at the miner before the miner could clear leather. Cowboy called to the other miners to take this guy out of the bar to go sober up before someone gets hurt. The barmaid brought a fresh beer to Cowboy saying thank you and this one is on me.
