Geocache Description:

    A Little History ...
A man named Peter Joseph Simon emigrated from Germany to America in 1840 in search of a better life. By 1847 he had moved to Milwaukee County, Wisconsin and was married.  In 1854 Peter and his family, now 7 strong, moved to Door County to try his hand in the lumber business.  Three years later, Peter and his wife Magdalena, a respected midwife, purchased 160 acres of woodland.  Peter could read, write, and was fair, and so he became a respected leader in the community. The local town was organized in November 1859 and named Laurieville.  However, the name was not popular with many residents.

Every month neighbors and friends would gather, and Peter would read the news to the group to keep them abreast of local and world events.  One of the topics was the Crimean War in Prussia.and the town of Sevastopol.  The local residents liked that name and voted to change the town name to Sevastopol in February, 1860.

This cache is hidden on an original road grader which was used way back in the day to flatten and smooth roads.
