Geocache Description:

Welcome to the largest urban Historical District in the United States! After GeoCaching for several years with my mother (using her account), I noticed the lack of caches in this neighborhood. In the 1960s, urban renewal efforts throughout Grand Rapids called for demolishing up to 75% of the neighborhood. However, protests from residents led to the organization of the Heritage Hill Association, in 1968. The residents filed court challenges and were able to stop the loss of historic neighborhood properties under the 1966 National Historic Preservation Act. This was the first such case of the use of a successful suit to protect a neighborhood's character under the Act. My family's lovely home was built in 1891 by the Mallory Family. This home has hosted a variety of individuals. One of the Keeler Brass brothers lived here and built the house next door around 1910 for one of his daughters, hence the shared driveway. In the 1960s a motorcycle gang lived in the house. They would drive their motorcycles up the porch ramp and parked them in my mother's parlor. Unfortunately, the garage burned down due to this lovely gang. With that being said, I introduce to you Heritage Hill's first Tiny Home via this GeoCache. I incourage you to walk around this neighborhood to view these gorgeous historical homes!
