Geocache Description:

For a general description on the series please refer to the text for the 'Two Trails: 1'

After leaving the final location of No: 8, carefully cross the road and continue up the hill. At this point you are leaving the Wye Valley Walk and in about 200 metres, after passing under The Redbrook Incline Bridge, you will be joining the Offas Dyke Path.

The bridge that you are passing under is a C19 tramway bridge, which was built to take a branch line from the Monmouth Tramroad, mainly to transport coal to the Redbrook Tinplate works. The bridge is a Listed Building and a Scheduled Monument. Monmouth Tramroad was a horse drawn railway between Monmouth and Coleford, opened in 1812 and closing in the late C19. Redbrook was historically an important industrial settlement, which included: a paper mill, several corn mills, a brewery, two blast furnaces and two copper smelting works from 1690 until 1740, which were later replaced by the large Tinplate Works that made the thinest sheet in the world and did not close until 1961.

You need to take care when continuing on up the road, as there is no pavement and it is a busy and at times narrow road with cars travelling at speed.
