Geocache Description:

From the main town of Vila Baleira you first go to the harbor.

If you do not want to walk along the road, you can walk a major part of the distance on the beach.

But even from the road you are very close to the water, smell salt and algae in the air, see the ferryLobo Marinho lying in front of the harbor.

At the harbor, continue straight ahead. You pass the power station with the big turbines and arrive at the Penedo.

In the rest of the year, however, one wonders if there was ever a single chair of cafes and restaurants are taken, whether the beach volleyball field has ever been used, or where the go-carts have gone.

Soon the tar road ends in a parking lot, but a dirt road leads to the tunnel along the coast line.

Here you no longer want to swim - too steep it goes to the water.

Again and again one wonders at picturesque tiny bays with turquoise water that seem inaccessible on foot.

On the left, the mountains have long risen high above, deep erosion gullies report of rainfall in winter times.

Boulders sometimes obstruct the path, remnants of larger landslides.

Eventually, the path becomes more difficult as the boulders increase in number and size.

Immediately afterwards, after a small climb, you pass a gate made of rocks and descend a few meters.

Here it is quiet and the high cliffs seem threatening.

To the right again a beautiful small beach, which is even accessible along the stable rock face, but only carefully and with good shoes because of the scree.

Completely unexpectedly you are standing in front of a wide and high tunnel.

It's cool in the tunnel, the wind hits you, and curious you will head to the east of the island once you approach the tunnel.

On the left, the Pico Branco rises, to the right is the Whale Bay.

The path is now very comfortable, wide and a bit sandy.

Unfortunately, it is also used by SUVs, sometimes even with cars.

Fifteen minutes later you arrive at the port of Porto das Frades. Here ends the street of Serra de Fora.

A single restaurant with bar invites you to rest.

On the beach you can swim, and if you want, go even further to the secluded beach Baia do Rio. The Cachebox itselv is hidden along the path to the tunnel.
