A flash mob get together of local (and hopefully some not-so local) cachers for a meet and greet in this beautiful Suffolk market town!
Where: In the market square in Brandon, Suffolk which is a town famous for many things, one of which is arguably the best quality flint in the world - Brandon Black.
For over a century Brandon was the capital of the gunflint industry and it supplied gunflints to the British Army at the Battle of Waterloo!
Many workers in the town would have often been 'caught knapping'! Knapping is striking the flint to shape it, and the village sign (below) shows three such workers and their piles of flint nodules.
When: 11.30am - 12.00 noon
What to do: This will be a half hour flash mob event (followed by an optional cuppa at a local café).
We will have a logbook to sign and a TB basket, and will try to bring a selection of TB’s for discovery and swapping.
If you collect, swap or trade pathtags, do bring them along as we will have some to swap/trade.
Come and sign the log, have a quick chat, possibly a group photo, then disperse, or join us for a cuppa.
Parking: There is a public car park near the market (no fee payable after 11.00am, but a ticket is required and needs to be displayed in your vehicle. Maximum stay 3 hours).
