Geocache Description:

For a general description on the series please refer to the text for the 'Two Trails: 1'

The Round House is a Grade II* Listed Building; it was built in 1794 by the Kymin Club as a picnic house for its members, prominent people in Monmouth society. Built at the highest point of The Kymin to take advantage of the wonderful views, especially to the west over Monmouth towards the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons. The flat roof of the tower once carried a telescope for the benefit of the Club members. Lord Nelson and the Hamiltons breakfasted here during their visit in 1802.

To the east of the Round House is a level lawn area: 'The Bowling Green' was levelled and constructed for the members of The Kymin Club who assembled here on Tuesday evenings to dine and play bowls. The date is probably closely contemporary with Round House.

Owned by the National Trust the building has recently been renovated and converted to a holiday let. I am grateful to the National Trust for allowing me to place this cache.

The cache is a magnetic nano, it is not located on the building. Please replace carefully.
