Geocache Description:

[EST]

Lugege vihjet. Aardes on pliiats.

1938. aastal viidi Harku alaealiste parandusasutuse alaealised Laitse mõisa Laitse alaealiste parandusasutusse. Ülejäänud Harku laste parandusasutuse koloonia viidi aastal 1945 Koluverre.

1920. aastate algul muutus üha aktuaalsemaks uue sunnitöövangla rajamine kriminaalkurjategijatele. Algselt taheti uus sunnitöövangla rajada Kesselaiu saarele, aga kuna seal läks ehitus liiga kalliks, valiti 1924 aastal uueks asukohaks Harku mõis. 1926 otsustati rajada uus ehitis sunnitöövanglaks kohta, mille aadress on tänaseks Pikk tänav 19. (Valge maja aarde ees) Harku vangla uus ajakohane hoone sai valmis 1928, vangla läks käiku 1930. aastal. Vangide tööd korraldas riiklik ettevõte Harku Turbatööstus. Harku turbarabas ning mõisas töötas suvekuudel kuni 400 vahialust. 1938 aastal asutati tööpõlgurite sunduslikult tööle õpetamiseks, harjutamiseks ja rakendamiseks Harku tööpõlgurite töölaager. Aastatel 1940-44 kasutati neid hooneid mitemsuguste kinnipidamisasutuste tarbeks.

Edgar Savisaar on Harku vanglas sündinud.

Read the hint. Once you've logged the cache, put it back exactly the way you found it. The logging paper is not very good, because I wanted to finish the digital and the physical part of the cache in one evening. Maybe I'll change the log in the future :) Luckily, it does have some nice features such as a dedicated place for the FTF and a lot of room for logging. It is recommended to not visit this cache at a late time, because the alcohol bottles on the ground suggest there might be muggles nearby at that time. There is a pencil in the cache.

Harku and Murru prison used to be a forced labor prison, but later it became a women's prison. The prison ceased operations in 2016, when it became a part of Tallinn's prison upon which, the buildings in Harku were sold. At the very start, the prison was nothing more than a basic prison - if you commited a crime, you had to stay there for a while. Nothing more. On 22/04/1919, the third temporary government of the first Estonian president Konstantin Päts decided to give the General Administration of Prisons of the Ministry of Justice (used Google Translate there, the name might be a bit flawed) the former barracks of Peter the Great Sea Fortress, together with all the belongings, that were between the Harku manor and the Harku town hall, so that they could use the buildings to create a juvenile correctional facility. In 1938, those children were moved into Laitse manor's Laitse juvenile correctional facility. In 1945, rest of Harkus juvenile correctional facility colony was moved into Koluvere.

At the beggining of 1920's, there was a plan to build a forced labor prison for criminals. At first, it was meant to be built on the island of Kesselaid, but since the construction there would've been too expensive, the project was moved to Harku's manor in 1924. In 1926, constructions of the forced labor prison had begun near Harku's manor. (The white building in front of the cache) The adress there today is Pikk tänav 19. In 1928, the construction were finished and the prison started operations in 1930. The prisoners' work was organized by the state company Harku Turbatööstus. In summer, there were up to 400 prisoners working in Harku's peat bog and Harku's manor. In 1938, the Harku labor camp for forced laborers was established to teach, practice and apply forced labour. In the years 1940-1944, these buildings were used for various detention facilities.

In the following years, especially after the end of peat production, Harku's prison mostly started focusing on women. The prison was fully declared a women's prison in 1965 and in 2011, Harku's women's prison was joined to Murru's prison, hence the prison's most recent name "Harku and Murru prison". In 2016, the prisons 102 825 sq.meters sized property which includes, among other things, a boiler house, administrative buildings, a garage, a canopied walking yard, a mechanical workshop, sewing workshops, a storage room, two dormitories, a canteen, a repair shop with an arch hall, a prison cell, a power substation, a medical department and a laundry-sauna were sold for real estate development. And in 2022, there is now a cache near it :)

Trivia facts - Harku's prison is Estonia's only women's prison. A famous Estonian politician Edgar Savisaar was born in the prison.
