The sign for the home of the Inkerman Rockets is where this geocache is hidden.
The Inkerman Rockets were founded in 1942 by Lloyd LaPort, a local school teacher at the time. He built an outdoor rink in the schoolyard for his students to use and with keen students, it was not long after that he bought sweaters and entered a team in the Winchester Town League.
Two members of the Inkerman Rockets proceeded to play in the NHL - Leo Boivin and Floyd Smith. The team came to an end in 1952 and has now been brought back to life in a different way. The North Dundas Senior Rockets, that are now based out of Chesterville, consist of local senior hockey players that played a higher level back in their hockey days. It’s a full circle moment!
A display of Inkerman Rockets memorabilia is featured in the upper lobby of the Old Town Hall.
