Geocache Description:

The return of my Scrabbling About series that I did a few years ago. This time I'm going to do some based around the history and geography of towns and villages around Exeter.

  • The first stage is to find the missing words from the below statements. Some are pitched at local general knowledge level, the others are trickier and will likely take some research. Make sure you get the spellings correct or you'll go awry at the next stage!

  • Calculate the value each of the names using standard UK Scrabble tile values. For example, my name, Carasek, would be worth 13 (3 for the C, 5 for the K and five lots of 1 for the other letters). No double or triple letters involved though! This will give a numerical value for each clue, A through to H.

  • Substitute those values into the formula at the bottom to find the cache location

A: In the 14th Century, Exminster was the seat of the Earls of Devon, the ________ family

B: The church in the village is dedicated to St. ______ of Tours

C: A small river, known as ______ Brook, runs through the village

D: The village is overlooked from the north-west by the site of the former Devon County ______

E: To the east of the village is the Exminster & Powderham ______ Nature Reserve

F: The churchyard contains the war graves of eight British World War I servicemen, the highest ranking of which is Major General Robert ______

G and H: A railway station was opened in August 1852. It was built and initially operated by George ______ on behalf of the ______ [two words] Railway.

N 50º (F + H) . [ZERO] [(D + E) x 4]
W 003º (C + C +G) . (H - B) [(A x 3) + B]

Your final coordinates should take you away from the centre of the village and the cache shouldn't be tricky to find.
