Villa Savorgnan Ottelio si trova nell’antico borgo di Ariis, nel Comune di Rivignano Teor, in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Affacciata su un’ansa del fiume Stella, la Villa è immersa nel “Parco Comunale dello Stella” e nel “Sito di Interesse Comunitario Risorgive dello Stella”, che ospita interessanti esemplari di flora e fauna. La ragion d’essere della Villa si trova nel fiume Stella: per la sua difesa militare e commerciale venne eretta, nella seconda metà del Duecento, una fortificazione, sulle cui basi venne costruita poi Villa. Inizialmente la Villa era un castello appartenente alla famiglia dei Wrusberg, dopo alterne vicende, la proprietà passò ad una delle famiglie nobiliari friulane più importanti, i Savorgnan. Questi, detenevano per conto della Serenissima il monopolio del sale, del tabacco e di altre merci che distribuivano nei loro feudi e nell’intera regione: per andar incontro ai bisogni commerciali, in adiacenza al corpo padronale, sorsero nuovi edifici adibiti alla raccolta e allo stoccaggio del sale e a dimora della servitù. Questa importante famiglia gestì l’intero complesso dal 1336 al 1492 quando venne diviso d’autorità tra quattro membri sempre Savorgnan; il castello venne lentamente smantellato e, al suo posto, sorse un palazzetto, l’attuale Villa. Il destino però non fu favorevole alla giovane coppia: alcuni mesi più tardi infatti Luigi viene gravemente ferito in battaglia e rimase paralizzato. Nel frattempo Lucina, per ragioni di opportunità politica e finanziaria, fu costretta a sposare Francesco Savorgnan. Luigi Da Porto, uomo d’armi ma anche di lettere, decise di raccontare il suo triste destino nella novella “Giulietta e Romeo”, modificando i nomi dei protagonisti e dei luoghi per mascherare l’origine autobiografica del suo testo.
