La Regina delle Apuane, non la più alta, ma sicuramente una delle vette più maestose che si staglia dalle altre colleghe per la sua mole e per quella Costa Pulita così iconica.
Citata da Dante nel 32esimo canto, e poi da Boccaccio, Ariosto, Pascoli e D’Annunzio, la Pania della Croce è la quarta in altezza delle Apuane e la più alta del Gruppo delle Panie, che comprende lei, la Pania Secca e il Pizzo delle Saette.
Caratteristica è poi la cresta dell’Uomo Morto, che la collega con la sua sorella Pania Secca: il profilo di un uomo sdraiato si disegna tra la Focena del Puntone fino alla Pania Secca, sancendo il confine tra i comuni di Molazzana e Vergemoli. Il suo naso è conosciuto come Puntone di Mezzo al Prato, con 1677m di altezza.

The crest of the Dead Man is also characteristic, which connects it with his sister Pania Secca: the profile of a man lying down is drawn between the Port of Puntone and Pania Secca, marking the border between the municipalities of Molazzana and Vergemoli.
