A micro cache by a Brewery in Romsey.
DO YOU REMEMBER STRONG’S OF ROMSEY?
Some people may still remember Strong’s of Romsey, the old brewery being a landmark on Brewery Lane in the centre of Romsey town for well over a century before being converted into offices and housing during the 1990’s - the malthouse style buildings were maintained and are still visible today.
Keen to use one of our nation’s traditional methods for producing cask ale – the Double Drop brewing method – the new Brewery was borne in December 2019 and the name evolved as a result of some very special history surrounding the area...
STANBRIDGE EARL’S ESTATE
During the Second World War, Stanbridge Earl’s Estate and Roke Manor served as a rest and recuperation centre for aircrew. Known as Station 503 and endearingly called the ‘Flak’ Shack, this was the brewery’s inspiration for the Brewery's name.
Romsey’s brewing history also attracted the attention of John Sergeant and the BBC who were producing a documentary on the photographer Francis Frith and historical Britain.
THE CACHE
You are looking for a Micro container which takes the form of a critter who may get caught in a 'Beer-trap'! Tweezers may be required. If arriving by train, you can walk directly through the industrial estate, or you can take a pleasant stroll to the historical site of the old malthouse across Duttons Road along the 'Fish Lake'; a tributary of the River Test. Please use stealth if searching in the daytime. Parking is available at GZ, or in the layby across Fish Lake.
