Geocache Description:

The Bald Eagle has been the national bird of the United States since 1782.

Did you know?

- Bald Eagles have a 7-foot wingspan (the same as a Cadillac) and can weigh up to 14 pounds
- North America is their only home, they are not found on any other continent
- Rather than catching their own prey, Bald Eagles will often harass smaller birds of prey
- Female Bald Eagles are 25% larger than males
- Once on the endangered list, the Bald Eagle was removed in 2007
- The white head feathers that make look bald do not develop until they are 5 years old
- Waiting for fish to swim past, while perched on a tree, is their preferred way to hunt
- Bald Eagles live for around 30 years
- They reach speeds of 35 to 43 mph
- Nests are huge and measure 5 to 6 feet across and 2.5 to 4 feet deep
- Eagle eggs are large and weigh about the same as an apple
