The 34th of a series of caches planned to be hidden at or near the historic rural schoolhouses of Routt County (RCSH - Routt County School Houses).  See the first cache of this series (GC6QQ71) for a complete and updated list of the ones currently available - but this list will continue to grow as there were 96 schools which served Routt County neighborhoods from 1883 until 1960 when the rural districts consolidated.

The small building on the hill just north of this cache is most likely on the site of what was the Elk Mountain or Mystic school.   The frame building sat near Trull Creek and housed the Elk Mountain/Mystic school from 1920/21 term to the 1952/53 term.  Early maps show the school in the approximate location of this small building just above where Trull Creek crosses CR 46.

Although the lower part of CR 46 is now known as Mystic, it is important to note that Mystic was actually on the “other side” of the ridge North of here.   The “Mystic Star Mail Route” from Steamboat traveled along what is now CR 46 and went to the Mystic Post Office at the Fred May ranch, which was located near CR 52E.  It crossed the ridge between Chimney Creek and Salt Creek.
