Geocache Description:

The Cats of Peace is a complementary series to the nearby Dogs of War caches. It highlights just a few of the famous cats which achieved some degree of popularity either in their own right or by association with someone famous.

Freddie Mercury, the lead vocalist of the band Queen, is regarded as one of the greatest singers in the history of rock music. Freddie had a flamboyant style, an amazing voice and also loved cats!

Over his lifetime (5 September 1946 – 24 November 1991) he reportedly owned 10 cats - Tom, Jerry, Tiffany, Dorothy, Delilah, Goliath, Lily, Miko, Oscar, and Romeo.

Freddie treated his cats very well, with each cat having its own bedroom and receiving a Christmas stocking filled with treats and toys. His album Mr. Bad Guy was dedicated to some of his cats and he also wrote a song about Delilah, one of his favourites, which featured on the Queen album Innuendo.  When on tour he would reportedly phone home and speak to his cats over the telephone. It is said this went on for years starting with his first cats Tom and Jerry and continuing with successive cats.

When Freddie passed away in 1991, at least 5 of his cats were still alive and it is said they were left to his former partner Mary Austin, as part of his estate.

The cache is a regular sized container with one of Freddie's cats under the lid. Cache contains logbook with stashnote, pencil and sharpener and and some small swaps.  Placed just off the Cemetery Spur Trail.
