Four new walking tracks have been opened recently in Queen Elizabeth Park:
- Peatland Ridge Track
- Old Farm Track
- Peatland Loop
- Kanuka Track
This cache brings you to the wetlands on the Peatlands Ridge Track. When the cache was hidden the tracks were not very well signposted, although there is a map available on the Greater Wellington Regional Council website (Queen Elizabeth Park brochure). See the gallery for the relevant part of the map.
Two suggested access points are Rainbow Court in Raumati, and the Old Farm Track which starts on Poplar Avenue, Raumati (see waypoints provided).
The Rainbow Court access is probably the quicker and more interesting walk (approximately 5-10 minutes). The entrance is next to the community gardens and has a large blue sign marked Queen Elizabeth Park. If starting from here, go down the pathway and turn left when you reach the end of the path. Then go through the gate (see waypoint) and up the hill a little and follow the track around to the wetlands. If you continue on you will pass some buildings and then join up to the Old Farm Track.
The cache is a 200ml sistema container with waterproof logsheet. There is a pencil in the cache but it's always a good idea to bring your own pen!
