Margaret Burns wanted to be a doctor, but in the 1890's, few places would accept women into medical school. She traveled from England to Vancouver to get a medical degree. Later, here in northern Utah, Dr. Burns was hired as the resident physician at the Crittenton home for "unfortunate girls and their children." Unwed mothers could give birth here and live until they could find work. When margarent died, she was buried next to her lifelong roommate Margaret Stewart.
