Platbank is the name of this most beautiful and secluded beach that you can reach by following the road that turns off by Groenvlei lake just east of Sedgefield (see Waypoint) and keep following it up the hill (do not turn left into Lake Pleasant Resort). The road becomes a dirt road, sometimes worse than others, after 3 km you reach the parking above the beach. Off late we now have 5G cell reception at GZ!
BRING YOUR OWN PEN!
Walking west from the beach access point you will reach the Swartriver mouth in Sedgefield and Myoli beach (check tide tables here and only go at low tide!) and walking east you will eventually reach the Wild Side beach and Goukamma River mouth near Buffalo Bay. Both are long walks. It is on that latter stretch that you may be lucky to find the one sandstone plate that broke off the 2 million year old fossilized dunes and came to lay on the beach which shows the fossilized footprint of a lion (no kidding!). Once I am shown the spot I shall update this listing with its coordinates.
No dogs are allowed to the east from here as this is Goukamma Nature Reserve.
We collected a whole big bag of rubbish along the beach to keep it beautiful (see pic attached). If you feel inspired, read below on how to make this a 3-in-1 cache!
Enjoy this stunning beach, almost always void of other people, spot the occasional oystercatcher couple and find your cache, using stealth if there IS somebody else around.
