In 1895, Sarah Anderson, widowed mother, tried to vote in Ogden during the national election. She was denied, so she walked straight over to the courthouse and sued... and won! The court ruled that every woman had the right to vote. But Salt Lake territorial Court overruled the ruling. One year later, Utah became a State and granted the right to vote for women, after which, Sarah Anderson was immediatey elected to the state House of Representatives where she chaired the committee for public health.
