Geocache Description:

Beinn Bhuidhe is a mountain near the head of Loch Fyne in Argyll in the Scottish Highlands. It is a Munro with a height of 948 metres (3,110 ft).

Beinn Bhuidhe lies separately from the main body of the Arrochar Alps. It is remote and unfrequented, situated to the north of the head of Loch Fyne between the upper reaches of Glen Fyne and Glen Shira. It is the only high hill in an extensive tract of featureless moorland between the head of Loch Lomond and Loch Awe. Its long summit ridge has three tops, the summit being the south-western one. Beinn Bhuidhe is much quieter than the Arrochar Alps proper, due in part to the 7.3 kilometre (4+1⁄2 mi) walk-in along a private road before starting the climb.

Geography
Beinn Bhuidhe is large mountain with three ridges shaped like the prongs of a trident. The longest ridge is the most southerly of the three and extends to Clachan Hill (658 m or 2,159 ft). The shortest is the most northerly and runs to Beinn an t-Sidhein (694 metres (2,277 ft)). Between them lies the main ridge upon which the summit is located, which runs for six kilometres (3+1⁄2 mi) from Tom a’ Phiobaire in the southwest to Ceann Garbh (803 m or 2,635 ft) in the north-east. The summit (948 m or 3,110 ft) is located approximately midway along this ridge.

Ascents
There are roads in both Glen Fyne and Glen Shira but Beinn Bhuidhe is mostly accessed from the former. There are good tracks giving access to the long south-west ridges, but the short and steep route running west-north-west from Inverchorachan House is the most popular.

YOSM
As of 2024 this has been included in the YOSM series. However don't expect too much from the trigpoint at Beinn Bhuidhe. It has been more or less completely destroyed by the harsh Scottish conditions and what you will find here are only the foundations of the once proud pillar. However, it can still be logged on the trigpointing sites as having visited the remains and as such, is eligible to be part of the YOSM series.

The geocache is designed to be a simple find, and a spoiler photo is available. Whilst there is usually signal on the summits, it would be worth downloading the photo in advance, although the coordinates should take you to it. The container is on the border between the small and micro size, if securely closed and hidden carefully with protection from the elements it should stand up to the munro weather. Please remember there are often gale force up winds here so always ensure the container is securely hidden so it doesn't blow out. Any help with basic maintenance in this remote location is greatly appreciated.

About Ye Ole Survey Monuments

Ye Ole Survey Monument (YOSM) is a captivating series of caches that pays homage to the remarkable legacy of OutForTheHunt's YSM series (GC45CC).

YOSM caches are strategically positioned at or near Trig Points. These triangulation stations have played a pivotal role as surveying landmarks, contributing to the mapping of expansive territories.

Some of these points, bearing historical significance, might now be situated on private land or have vanished with time. As a result, the caches are artfully placed in close proximity, reverently acknowledging the historical importance of these survey monuments.

More information, bookmarks and statistics can be found at the YOSM Website

If anybody would like to expand the Ye Ole Survey Monuments Series, please do.
I would ask that you request a number for your cache first at www.yosm.org.uk
so we can keep track of the numbers and names to avoid duplication.
