This cache is hidden about half way along a track which provides an alternative route to the summit of Mt Karangahake. It is shorter but steeper than the official route, so my preference is to go up via the longer official route (which includes a mine, and a lookout to explore), and to use this track to come down. There are great views from the top, including a castle to the WNW.
I have included waypoints for each end of the track, and also the closest car parking. It is also possible to access the Karangahake Mountain Track from the main Karangahake carpark, by crossing the suspension bridge, and using Scotsman's Gully Track.
The cache is hidden about 3m from the track by a large rock visible from the track. Please try to avoid leaving a distinct "geo-trail" leading directly to the cache. Be aware that on Mt Karangahake there are unguarded ventalation shalfts to the old mine workings, so extreme caution is required if you should leave the track for any reason.
