Southwest Montana's Pioneer Range is separated into the East and West Pioneer Ranges by the Wise River and the Pioneer Scenic Byway. The West Pioneer Mountains are gentle and have no peaks above timberline. The East Pioneers are a jagged line of 10,000ft and 11,000ft peaks. The Pioneers lie north of Dillon, southwest of Butte, and southeast of Wisdom. This range sees relatively few people compared to most ranges, because of its remoteness. Every peak in the range offers an awesome view of surrounding mountains and ranges.
There are 11 named peaks over 10,400 ft in the Pioneers:
Tweedy Mountain: 11,154ft, Torrey Mountain: 11,147ft, Granite Mountain: 10,633ft, Baldy Mountain: 10,568ft, Alturas 2: 10,550ft, Barb Mountain: 10,497ft, Mount Tahepia: 10,473ft, Mount Alverson: 10,467ft, West Black Lion Mountian: 10,432ft, Highboy Mountain: 10,431ft, and East Black Lion Mountain: 10,419ft

A letterbox is a type of geocache with a stamp included inside. The stamp needs to stay inside the container and is not a trade item. You can use your ink pad to stamp your personal letterboxing book with this stamp, and use your own personal stamp to leave a mark in this geocache's logbook. Signing and dating like a traditional geocache is perfectly fine too.
Along the Chinese Peak trail (trail 0352) you get some lovely views of Pocatello en route the the Chinese Peak summit. This is an old ATV/Jeep doubletrack that is 3.5 miles long with 1,992 feet of ascent. The gate is typically closed so don't plan on driving up the trail in an ATV. This letterbox was placed here on BLM property with permission and we have permission to hike here. If the trail is wet or muddy you are encouraged not to travel here to avoid causing trial damage. This is mostly in early winter and the first half of springtime. This area isn't officially closed to foot traffic in Winter but is a lot more treacherous on the steeper slopes, even with snowshoes.
Gaiters encouraged for this one. Short bushwhack to reach the final.
