Cele mai vechi așezări omenești descoperite în regiunea în care se află localitatea Otopeni datează din comuna primitivă. Cu prilejul săpăturilor efectuate în anul 1966 pentru construirea Aeroportului Internațional Henri Coandă, arheologul Margareta Constantiniu de la Muzeul de Istorie al municipiului București a identificat fragmente de ceramică veche și alte obiecte care au aparținut unei importante asezări omenești existentă înca din prima perioadă a epocii fierului. Într-un strat suprapus a fost descoperită o altă așezare, mai nouă, din secolul al X-lea.

The oldest human settlements discovered in the region where Otopeni is located date back to the primitive commune. On the occasion of the excavations carried out in 1966 for the construction of Henri Coandă International Airport, the archaeologist Margareta Constantiniu from the History Museum of Bucharest identified fragments of old ceramics and other objects that belonged to an important human settlement existing since the first period of the Iron Age. Another, newer settlement from the 10th century was discovered in an overlying layer.
