THE CACHE IS NOT AT THE POSTED COORDINATES, DON'T BOTHER GOING THERE. YOU MUST SOLVE THE PUZZLE BELOW TO DETERMINE THE ACTUAL COORDINATES.
THE POSTED COORDINATES ARE A STARTING POINT FOR YOUR DRIVE TO THE PARKING AREA. IF YOU WOULD LIKE A MORE CHALLENGING EXPERIENCE YOU CAN PARK THERE AND WALK, BUT THE TERRAIN WOULD GO WAY UP. ALSO, YOU MAY HAVE TO PARK THERE IN THE WINTER (I DON'T KNOW IF THEY KEEP THIS ROAD OPEN IN THE WINTER).
NOTE: THE CACHE IS IN A STATE FOREST. WEAR ORANGE DURING HUNTING SEASONS, AND AVOID THIS CACHE DURING DEER SEASON!
The cache is hidden at: N 42 01.ABC W 075 44.DEF
If you are patient and carefully follow the directions below you should be able to easily solve the puzzle and be ready to go get the find.
To determine ABC, follow the directions below:
- Pick a number from 1-6.
- Divide your number by 7. (Use a calculator that will give you a large number of decimal places).
- Look at the result of your division. Find the first occurence of the digit "4".
- Number the 5 digits in a row starting with the 4 as 1-5.
- A WILL BE DIGIT 1 + DIGIT 4
- B WILL BE DIGIT 1
- C WILL BE DIGIT 5
To determine DEF, follow the directions below:
- Select a number, any number, from 1-9999. (Don't use an 8 in your number unless you really want to).
- If your number is less than 1000 add enough 0's at the beginning to turn it into a 4 digit number (example: if you pick 14 change it to 0014).
- Write down your number twice to end up with an 8 digit number (for example: 00140014).
- Divide your 8 digit number by 137.
- Divide this new number by your original 4 digit number.
- D = THE FIRST DIGIT OF THIS LATEST CALCULATED NUMBER
- Add 12 to the latest calculated number. (For example, if your calculated number was 127, then D would be 1 and then 12 would be added to 127).
- Divide this number by 17.
- Dropped any digits after the decimal point.
- Divide this number by the square root of 25.
- E AND F ARE BOTH = THIS NUMBER
Hopefully you have been careful with your calculations. The 3 digit check sum for ABC is 20. The 3 digit check sum for DEF is 9.
I would highly recommend that after your check sums are correct that you also run your final coordinates through the checker below.
Now, a little about the hide. The cache is a plastic ammo can. I did not have any swag with me wnen I hid it, so there isn't any there. It is well hidden - please try to keep it that way. The terrain rating is due to a lot of downed trees in the area. The difficulty rating is mainly for the hide itself with a little bump for the puzzle.
