Ignore the above UTM Lat/Long. It only tells you that this cache is located on Vancouver Island B.C. The cache contains $25.00 in Canadian loonies, CD’s, and many other items. This cache was placed using a Trimble Pro XR and Marine Differential. You can find the cache under a rock overhang in bush and scrub.
Here’s the drill, all positions are in WGS-84 using the GRS-80 ellipsoid. All compass bearings are in True North using an East declination of 20 degrees.
1. Start at the top of Mt. Maguire in East Sooke regional park.
2. Follow a compass course of 64 degrees 51 minutes 30.9358 seconds until you come to a place where the “late” Allen Abbott Sharland “rests”.
3. Determine the exact UTM of No.2 above.
4. From here, proceed on a compass course of 105 degrees 53 minutes 43.6205 seconds and just before you reach the ocean look for a large rock with Turquoise paint sprayed on it by presumably a local artist. Determine the UTM of the rock.
5. For your viewing pleasure, note the wrecked sailboat 436 meters at 163 degrees from the rock.
6. From the rock proceed (presuming a flat world) 1988.65 meters West and 4712.485 meters South from the Turquoise rock.
7. You should now be standing on a benchmark.
8. Look 270 degrees for 367 meters. You will see a church steeple. Determine its UTM.
9. Presuming a “flat” world, the cache is located 5449.74 meters West and 14770.916 meters North of the church steeple.
NOTE: There are white paint dots on a rock close to the cache. From the paint dots the cache is 5 feet at 340 degrees True.
