Geocache Description:

Mokorua Bush Scenic Reserve - "The Bird Walk"

The Mokorua Bush Scenic Reserve is a fine example of the self-healing powers of New Zealand's native forests. Most of the area was originally cleared for farming between 1910 and 1920.  In 1969 it was declared a scenic reserve, and it now has a high canopy of native trees and is home to many native birds.  The aptly named Bird Walk takes you through native bush rich in birdlife. Keep an eye out for tui, bellbirds, fantails and kereru.  This portion of Ngā Tapuwae o Toi Trail offers a number of views over Whakatāne and the surrounding area.

This one follows a trap line trail from near the top of the track, following a ridge, if your going down a gulley your probably not on the right trap line.

Tweezers, pen/pencil, water and a willingness to climb some steps (unless coming down the track) suggested  - enjoy!
